This is a faithful reproduction of one of the finest and best documented chests by the famed cabinetmaker, John Townsend of Newport, Rhode Island. Like the original, this chest shows the cabinetmaker's art in the concave and convex shell carving that adorn the upper drawer. The original of this chest sold in New York for $4.7 million.
