KITTINGER Kettle Base Mahogany Highboy Sold Products

Descriptions

This outstanding highboy was crafted by the KITTINGER Furniture Company in celebration of the companies 50th anniversary of reproducing Colonial Williamsburg furniture. The original chest is on display at the Dewitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum in Colonial Williamsburg, a repository for American and English antiques. The original chest can be traced to the North Shore of Boston, circa 1780. It is believed that Boston's North Shore is the only place in America where this particular style of furniture was produced. As in the original, this Williamsburg reproduction is constructed from 265 pieces of fine mahogany and as a secondary wood for the interior and backboards white pine was used. Some of the strong design points of this chest include its graceful partially enclosed pediment with superbly applied carved rosettes and topped by three urn shape finials with alternating corkscrew flames. A strong architectural detail is the use of fluted columns and moldings at the cornice, capitals and waste. At 46"x24"x93" tall, this is a large and stately chest that is sure to highlight any home or decor.
